A Brief Histroy of the Institution :
Koregaon Education Society was established at Koregaon, District- Satara on 24 March 1992 by honorable Shankarrao Jagtap, the former Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The motto of the institution is “Dnyan, Charitrya, Susanskar Sanwardhan Yasathi Shikshan” (Education for Knowledge, Character and value Preservation). The institution caters to the needs of secondary and higher education to economically, socially and educationally backward students in Koregaon taluka. Throughout his life, honorable president Shankarrao Jagtap struggled for the upliftment of the poor, the down-trodden, workers, farmers and labourers in Koregaon taluka. It was his dream to uplift the mass society by providing education to the sons and daughters of the poor farmers and labourers. And hence he established Koregaon Education Society, Koregaon. District- Satara.
The mass community in Koregaon tehsil depends upon farming profession. The sons and daughters of farmers were deprived of secondary education. They had to leave their education after the primary education itself. Shankarrao Jagtap alias Anna wanted to educate especially girls from this rural area. It was a dire need of the time to start an institution where knowledge is imparted with the aim of ‘Education for Konowledge, Character, and Culture preservation’
The institution runs eight High Schools and one senior college. The high schools are at the villages like Dudhi- Nigadi, Palashi, Nhavi-BK., Ambheri, Borgaon, Jalgaon, Chilewadi, and Vikhale in Koregaon tehsil. Initially Shri Shankarraoji jagtap took villagers into confidence by explaining them the importance of education. The Vidyalayas were started in the temples, private buildings etc. on rental basis.
The institution established Shankarrao Jagtap Arts and Commerce College at Wagholi in Koregaon tehsil in June 2001 and opened the doors of higher education to students in this area of North Koregaon. The college does not have its own building. Temporally we are using Zilha Parishad’s primary school building on rental basis. Recently, the institution has bought three and half Acres of land and the institution proposes to construct a well-equipped college building with all necessary amenities for students at the new site.
